"The Hudson Valley Youth Wind Ensembles" with Sue Lichtenberg at the helm, fills an important need for young instrumentalists who, as early adolescents, are in the formative stage of their lives. Music, among other things, is an identity choice for them. Music educators, like myself, work hard on a daily basis to create rich musical experiences for our students but, in general, we're lucky if we see a student once a day. NYSSMA and All-County provide two excellent opportunities for musical challenge and growth but each of them only requires a couple of months here and couple of months there. The Youth Wind Ensemble offers a long term musical opportunity for the student who is beginning to develop skills and a sense of enjoyment in succeeding at music. Sue's use of the NYSSMA score and solo level provides another good reason for going to NYSSMA. . I plan to promote this experience with my Middle School students because I believe in the value of this opportunity." - Charles Seymour
