Sue Lichtenberg received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia and her Master’s Degree from the College of St. Rose.

One of her true passions in life has been teaching children instrumental music. She has spent the past 26 years teaching band in Ulster County.  In 2009-2010 Sue created the HVYWE and is the Director.  The previous 12 years were in Marlboro High School as the Band Director and prior to that she was the Band Director in New Paltz Middle School.

Sue’s instrumentalists have garnered many awards over the years. Her bands have performed at NYSSMA Majors festivals and have received ratings of both Gold and Silver. She has had students accepted into All County Ensembles, Area All State Ensembles, NYS Band Director’s Association Ensembles, All State Ensembles and All Eastern Band, based on their NYSSMA Solo evaluations. 

Her small ensembles have been featured at numerous local venues, including the Ulster County Legislature. The Marlboro High School saxophone ensemble, aka “Saxology”, won a statewide competition and was selected to perform at the NYS School Board Association Annual Convention, held in NYC during October 2008. They were 1 of 3 groups asked to perform from NYS.

Sue has been nominated for Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and Who’s Who Among American Women.  The National Society of High School Scholars awarded her an Outstanding Achievement and Excellence in Teaching Award. 

Sue has had the opportunity to guest conduct in Ulster, Greene and Sullivan County and has been the Chairman for numerous All County festivals. She is an active member in Ulster County Music Educators, Music Educators National Conference, NYS School Music Association, NYS Band Directors Association, NYS United Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma.
